All British reptiles are protected by law, making it an offence to kill or injure any of the six native species.
In addition, sand lizard and smooth snake are designated as European Protected Species making it illegal to damage or destroy the places they use for breeding or resting.
Where it is predictable that reptiles are present, activities such as site and vegetation clearance could legally constitute intentional killing or injuring.
We can carry out a reptile survey using artificial refuge to establish reptile presence/absence on site. A mitigation strategy can then be designed and implemented dependant on results.
The survey period for reptiles runs between March to October.
